Are You Suffering With Elbow Pain
And Golfer's Elbow?

If you’ve got elbow pain, tenderness, or a dull ache on the inside of your elbow, it’s very tempting to think it’s nothing—that it will just go away on its own. Or you might dismiss it as having “overdone it,” “played one too many rounds,” or assume it’s just a normal part of being active…

There’s often no obvious reason why it started, or maybe it appeared gradually after gripping, swinging, or lifting—but the pain just isn’t improving.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and we hear this all the time. In fact, Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis), Tendonitis, and Chronic Elbow Pain are among the most common problems we treat in our physical therapy clinic here in Naples, FL.

What Is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow is a common overuse condition that affects the inside of the forearm where the tendons attach to the elbow. Despite its name, it doesn’t affect only golfers – anyone who repeatedly grips, swings, lifts, or twists the wrist can experience this type of pain. At Freedom Physical Therapy and Fitness, we see many individuals whose discomfort limits their golf performance, daily activities, or ability to enjoy recreational sports.

Golfer’s elbow typically causes pain along the inside of the elbow that may travel down the forearm or even into the upper arm or shoulder. Many golfers notice discomfort during their downswing, follow-through, or gripping the club. When left untreated, the irritation can worsen over time, affecting consistency, power, and confidence on the course.

Understanding how the condition develops is key. Weakness, mobility restrictions, poor swing mechanics, limited flexibility, or improper wrist rotation (pronation and supination) all play a role. The elbow may be the painful spot, but the root of the problem often lies in your swing, shoulder mechanics, or lack of strength in the surrounding muscles.

What are the symptoms of Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow can appear gradually or suddenly depending on the cause. Common symptoms include:

These symptoms not only impact golf performance but can also make everyday tasks – like lifting bags, turning doorknobs, or carrying groceries – more challenging. For golfers, the condition can cause inconsistent shots, reduced drive distance, compromised chipping and putting, and a constant awareness of pain instead of focusing on the game.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Golfer's Elbow?

At Freedom Physical Therapy and Fitness, we take a comprehensive, golf-specific approach to identifying and treating the root cause of golfer’s elbow. Our goal is not just to relieve pain – it’s to help you return to the course with greater power, consistency, and confidence.

Our treatment approach includes:

Many golfers compensate for strength deficits or limited mobility by overusing the wrist and elbow. By analyzing your mechanics and addressing the deficits, we can significantly reduce strain, improve control, and help you play longer without discomfort.

Our goal is simple: help you play 18 holes – or even 36 – with no pain at all. We want to add distance to your drive, improve the consistency of your short game, and eliminate the distraction of elbow pain so you can stay fully focused on every shot.
